Course Description:

This course is an introduction to problems, techniques and social forces that shape and reflect our visual world. Emphasis is placed on gaining insights and developing an understanding of the variables inherent in planning, organizing, and making a work of art.

Other:

An introduction to the aesthetic and cultural development of the visual arts. Discussions will address the forces that shape our world, looking at how these factors have influenced artist's ideas, methods and materials. Emphasis will be placed on developing an understanding of the fundamental principles of art and the visual elements, with the intention of generating a deeper personal relationship with the world of art. Practicing how to speak and write about art will be an important component of this course.
