Course Description:

This is an introduction to the facts, principles, and theories that describe the behavior and mental processes of humans and animals. Topics include research methodology, neuroscience, sensation and perception, consciousness, learning, memory, intelligence, emotion, personality, psychological disorders and treatments.

Prerequisite's:

 Eng 50 - Basic Writing Skills

 Course Contents

Along with developing a foundational understanding of general psychology, it is my hope that students will:

  • Recognize the scientific rigor and personal relevance of psychology
  • Develop critical and scientific thinking skills
  • Expand awareness of cultural and gender influences
  • Discuss controversial topics in an objective and impartial manner
  • Establish more effective learning strategies
  • Understand how historical figures and classic psychological studies helped set the stage for contemporary research
